The college, with an enrolment of 4515 students, has the glory and honor of being the first and the largest government postgraduate institution for women in the state of Rajasthan. It is named after Meera, a princess-turned saint-poetess of the erstwhile princely state of Mewar, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, who immortalized herself as an apotheosis of feminine courage and spiritual sublimity in the glittering annals of India.
aaaaaaaaaFounded in 1956 as an intermediate college, Government Meera Girls College grew quickly into a multi-faculty degree college in 1959 and eventually acquired the status of a post graduate college in 1977. Affiliated to Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, it offers multi-faculty graduate courses in 24 disciplines and postgraduate courses in 13 disciplines. Besides, it offers career - oriented courses, supported by U.G.C. and approved by affiliating university, in Export Import Practices and Documentation, New Perspectives in Banking, Functional English and Advanced Diploma in Computer Application. As per MOU signed by Commissionerate, College Education, Rajasthan and Infosys, Bangalore, 60 colleges have been selected for Communication Skills Enhancement Training Course in English. In the past fifty five years the college has witnessed developments at a rapid pace because of the devotion of the faculty members in all the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce at UG and PG level. by this college. It is a matter of pride for all of us that Govt. Meera Girls' College Obtained 'B++' grade accredited by UGC NAAC inspection in the year 2006. Since then the college has resolved to put in its incessant efforts to obtain 'A++'. The meritorious status of the students reflects their ambitions and their achievements. Besides a general Girls Hostel, the College also provides facility of Schedule Tribe Girls Hostel. Another very significant asset and feature, which this college owns is a unit of the College, namely Meera Sports Academy.
